Students and researchers

To meet contemporary challenges affecting official signs identifying quality and origin (SIQO), INAO is intensifying its links with professionals, public administrations and the world of research.

The aim is to develop synergies around technical innovations and experimental methods.

INAO also regularly welcomes students and answers their questions about SIQO.

This section provides information for students and researchers.

Understanding SIQO and INAO missions

In France and Europe, official logos are used to recognize products that benefit from a official quality and origin identification sign (SIQO).

They provide an official guarantee for consumers: guarantee of origin (AOC and AOP, IGP), guarantee of superior quality (Label Rouge), guarantee of a traditional recipe (STG), guaranteed respect for the environment and animal welfare (Organic Farming).

Building on its expertise forged over more than 80 years, INAO ensures the recognition and protection of official signs identifying the quality and origin (SIQO) of agricultural, agri-food and forestry products.

Data and maps

INAO makes a wealth of data available to Internet users, particularly economic and geographical data. In addition, as part of an open data initiative, INAO has uploaded information to the open French public data platform data.gouv.fr.

INAO's links with the world of research

For INAO, tackling contemporary issues means intensifying links with applied research and development structures in order to identify available innovations and help practices evolve.

This mobilization concerns both the technical content of evolutions and the ways in which they are appropriated. INAO already has partnerships with the research community, such as an agreement with INRAe, enabling a shared agent to be set up.

The INAO wishes to deepen these links, through several actions:

  • Association during national and regional committees
  • Mobilization of scientific committees of research organizations on specific issues
  • Co-construction of technical solutions, with defense and management organizations
.

Applying for an internship or apprenticeship

Every year, INAO welcomes interns and apprentices to its national departments or territorial delegations. They contribute to specific studies in all INAO's fields of intervention and benefit from the advice and experience of our experts. Some examples of internships carried out in recent months:

  • Analysis of emerging quality assessment and scoring techniques (nutriscore, ecoscore, planetscore) and opportunities for SIQO
  • Study on the impact of SIQO on employment, at production level
  • Development of audiovisual content for the Institute's communication...
